LinkedIn lead generation cost: time, tools and people
The biggest LinkedIn lead generation cost is almost always people: the weekly hours of an owner, hire or assistant, ahead of any subscription. Track cost per meeting booked.
Tools our VAs use for this
LinkedIn lead generation costs whatever the time, tools and people cost to run it every week. LinkedIn's paid plans start from £49.99 a month for Premium Business and £94.99 a month for Sales Navigator Core, according to LinkedIn's own pricing pages, and ads have a published minimum daily budget. The biggest cost is almost always people: the hours of the owner, a hire, or an assistant. A dedicated outreach VA from Ant Assist starts at £5 per hour on the introductory rate.

What the cost is made of
LinkedIn lead generation costs are the time of whoever runs it plus any LinkedIn paid plan, ad budget, data and automation tools and CRM, in a mix that depends on your route. Before you price anything, decide which route you are taking, because each one has a different cost shape. If you want to see how a managed service prices the outreach route, our LinkedIn outreach service page sets out what a dedicated outreach assistant covers.
Organic, outreach and ads
- Organic content. Posting, commenting and taking part in groups. Cash cost close to nothing; time cost steady, every week.
- Outbound outreach. Searching for good-fit people, sending connection requests, following up and booking meetings. Cash cost is a paid plan if you choose one and a CRM; the time cost is the largest of the three routes.
- Paid ads. Sponsored content, message ads and lead gen forms. Cash cost is the ad budget; time cost is setting up, testing and following up every lead the ads produce.
Audience and profile groundwork
Every route is cheaper when you know exactly who you are targeting and your profile tells them who you help, because fewer messages and less ad budget go to the wrong people. That is true whether you run the outreach yourself, hire in-house or use a dedicated outreach assistant. Our LinkedIn lead generation strategy guide covers the set-up, content and the weekly routine in full. For wording you can adapt to cut the time each message takes, see LinkedIn outreach message templates.
Cost components at a glance
| Component | What it is | How it is charged |
|---|---|---|
| Your time | Writing, searching, messaging, following up, reporting | Hours a week, at what your time is worth |
| LinkedIn paid plan | Premium Business or Sales Navigator | Per licence, monthly or yearly |
| Ads | Sponsored posts, message ads, lead gen forms | Budget you set, daily or lifetime |
| Data and enrichment tools | Finding emails and company details | Usually monthly subscription or credits |
| CRM | Where every contact and conversation is logged | Usually per user, monthly |
| Automation tools | Software that sends requests and messages | Usually per account, monthly, plus the risk to your account |
| The person who runs it | You, a hire, a VA or an agency | Salary, hourly rate or retainer |
Is LinkedIn good value for lead generation?
For UK B2B it often is, because you can search by job title, company and location and reach the person who owns the problem. It is poor value when your buyers are not active there, or when the work starts and stops. The return comes from consistency, which is why the people cost matters more than any subscription. If LinkedIn is only one of several routes you are weighing, lead generation for small business compares the wider options.
LinkedIn ads: budgets and bidding
Minimum budgets
LinkedIn sets a minimum daily budget of $10 for any ad format and a minimum lifetime budget of $100 for new campaigns, according to LinkedIn's guide to maximising your ad budget; the page shows the figures in dollars only, so check the equivalent in your own account currency. Above those minimums, you choose the budget and the bidding method, and what you pay per click or per lead depends on the audience, the competition for it and your ad.
LinkedIn does not publish an average cost per click or per lead, and we have not found an independent figure we can stand behind, so we do not quote one. Run a small test, record the spend and the meetings that came from it, and use your own number.
Do lead gen forms work?
Lead gen forms open inside LinkedIn and fill in the person's details from their profile, so they are easy to complete. That makes them good for gated content and event sign-ups, and means some submissions come from people with little intent. Budget for the follow-up as well as the ads: every form fill needs a quick, personal response and a qualifying conversation before it becomes a real lead. If ads are in the mix, lead generation vs demand generation explained shows what ads can and cannot do.
Automation tool costs and account risk
Tool pricing models
Automation and outreach tools are usually sold per LinkedIn account per month, sometimes with a free trial, and sometimes with tiers based on features or volume. Data and enrichment tools are often sold on credits. CRMs are usually priced per user per month. Prices change often, so compare the current pages rather than a guide's list.
Invitation limits and restrictions
The hidden cost of automation is the account itself. LinkedIn limits how many invitations you can send and how many can sit unanswered, and it publishes no fixed weekly number. Reaching the limit can lead to a restriction on sending invitations that, according to LinkedIn Help on invitation limits, cannot be shortened. Automation tools act through your account, so if a tool triggers a restriction, your prospecting stops while it lasts. Price that risk in before you buy.
People costs: in-house, VA or agency
For most businesses, the person doing the work is the largest cost of LinkedIn lead generation, whether that is you, an in-house hire, a VA or an agency. LinkedIn lead generation works when someone does it every working day, so the question is who that someone is and what their hours cost.
Doing it yourself
Doing it yourself has no invoice, which makes it look cheap. Work out the real figure:
- Write down the hours a week the routine takes: research, requests, first messages, follow-ups, replies, CRM updates and a weekly review.
- Put a value on an hour of your time, for example what you bill a client or what an hour of selling is worth to the business.
- Multiply the two, then multiply by the weeks in a month.
That is your monthly people cost. Add the weeks the routine stops because client work came first: leads lost in those gaps are part of the cost too.
In-house hire
An in-house SDR or sales assistant gives you full control. The cost is a UK salary plus employer National Insurance, pension, holiday, equipment, management time and the time it takes to recruit and train. It makes sense when LinkedIn outreach is one part of a wider sales role you need in the building. If you need sales support rather than a full hire, our guide to the virtual sales assistant role shows what that covers.
Managed outreach: VA or agency
Agencies price in different ways, often as a monthly fee, and run the work at arm's length; ask exactly which hours and activities the fee covers. A dedicated virtual assistant is one person working your list and your messages on an hourly rate, with you taking the calls. For the general comparison of VA costs, see our virtual assistant cost UK guide, and for how to choose and brief one, our guide on how to hire a VA for lead generation.
Cost per lead and expected results
Leads per month
There is no honest answer to "how many leads will I get?" before you start, and no independent benchmark we can point to. It depends on your market size, offer, profile and messages. Run the routine for a fixed period, record the numbers every week, and you will have a baseline that is better than any average.

How to measure return
Use three simple sums, from your own records:
- Cost per meeting = total monthly cost (people, plans, ads, tools) divided by meetings booked from LinkedIn that month.
- Cost per customer = total monthly cost divided by new customers won from LinkedIn.
- Return = the value of those customers over a year, compared with what it cost to win them.
If your average customer is worth a lot over a year, a high cost per meeting can still pay. If the numbers do not work after a fair test, change the audience or the message before you change the spend. Our FAQ on how a VA reports lead generation results shows the weekly figures to ask for.
Outsourcing to a managed outreach service
What is included
A dedicated lead generation VA from Ant Assist runs the outreach routine: list research, connection requests, follow-ups in your voice, CRM logging, booking meetings into your diary and a weekly report. The VA is one named person, never shared, working full time from our managed office in Cairo on UK business hours, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, recruited, managed and supervised there, not a freelancer and not AI. Access runs through password managers and can be revoked, under NDAs and data-processing agreements.
The rate starts at £5 per hour on the introductory rate: the first 6 months on the Entry tier, 3 months on Mid, 1 month on Expert. After the promotion, the lead generation Entry rate is £5.50 per hour full time (£880 a month for 160 hours) or £6.50 per hour part time (£520 a month for 80 hours). LinkedIn plans, ad budgets and tools are separate costs, best kept in your business's name. Put your own hours into the calculator to compare against an in-house hire.
Example, for illustration only: a part-time VA on the post-promotion Entry rate (£520 a month for 80 hours) prospecting on one Sales Navigator Core licence at LinkedIn's monthly list price (£94.99) comes to £614.99 a month before any VAT on the licence, plus whatever you choose to spend on ads and tools.
What the £5/hour entry rate includes
- Dedicated VA, never shared
- UK-hour aligned support
- Management and supervision included
- Recruitment and onboarding included
- Office infrastructure included
- VA replacement available
- No NI, pension, or holiday costs
- 3-month probation, no penalty to leave
When it costs less than in-house
A VA suits work that is mostly outreach and follow-up, with you or a senior person taking the sales calls. In-house suits a role that also needs meetings in person, closing deals or managing staff.
