Can a VA help with research and data entry?
A short answer for business owners deciding what to hand to a virtual admin assistant.
Yes, and they are two of the tasks a virtual assistant does best, because both are defined by a clear brief and a clear finished state. Research: your VA finds, compares and summarises the information behind a decision you will make. Data entry: your VA keeps your CRM, spreadsheets, invoices and records entered, matched and clean, every day rather than in a month-end panic.
Research works when you give the question and the format you want the answer in. Comparing suppliers on price, terms and lead time; building a list of prospects that match a profile; gathering the facts for a proposal, a tender or a board paper; checking a market, a competitor or a venue. Your VA returns a short document in the shape you asked for, with the sources, and flags what they could not find. What they do not do is make the decision: research ends at the edge of your judgement and hands over cleanly.
Data entry is the daily work most businesses leave to nobody. Your VA enters new leads, customers and suppliers into the CRM and updates the records after every call and email; maintains the trackers the business runs on; enters supplier invoices and receipts into your accounting tool, matches them to orders or statements and prepares the monthly summary for your accountant; cleans duplicates and standardises names, addresses and formats; and turns forms, scans and PDFs into structured records. Our VAs work with Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent and Sage, and with expense tools like Expensify and Dext; they do not provide accountancy or tax advice, which stays with your accountant.
The difference from a per-task freelancer or an offshore data-entry shop is continuity. At Ant Assist the person doing the work is one named, dedicated VA who learns your systems once, notices when a source changes, asks when something is ambiguous and keeps a log of what was entered and what was flagged. They are recruited, trained and supervised from our own in-house office in Cairo, work your hours with a UK team supervising quality, sign an NDA and a data-processing agreement and work through a password manager you control. The entry rate is £5 per hour for the first 6 months on the Entry tier; after the promotion, the admin rate card applies from £6.30 per hour full time. Most clients have their VA active within 5 to 7 working days of signing up.
For the data side as a role in its own right, with the task list, the checks and the monthly cost, read the data entry virtual assistant UK page. For research as part of a wider admin role, start with the admin service page.
